The purpose is to prevent flow reversal, closing off the orifice when there is a decrease in pressure, and remaining open when the fluid direction is correct.<\/p>\n<p>Retention valves are also known as flap valves and one-way valves, with several different sub-types: the most common are ball retention valves and flap retention valves.
